It seems like every release I have lately is a long time in the making but such is the struggles of balancing real life with what I want to do with the label. So it would seem that this one would be no different…Every release I do is an absolute labor of love but this release definitely holds a special place in my heart. THE ONLY GHOST IN TOWN is a solo project by my friend Dan who is better known for holding down the low end in the excellent New Jersey based indie rock band By Surprise. Dan and I started exchanging emails back and forth discussing our mutual interest various indie rock and indie pop bands as well the aesthetic of lo fi culture. After awhile he let me know about this little project he had been cooking up. Within the first 15 seconds of the song “Like Candy” I was absolutely hooked on every fuzzy guitar note and reverb soaked vocal melody. And with each subsequent song that he sent me it just got better and better. To the point where I told him I had to release the songs in some manner on Rok Lok. We discussed it and felt that the cassette format would be ideal for this music. Personally, it brings me back to my roots of getting interested in DIY music by consuming Shrimper Records tape releases.
THE ONLY GHOST IN TOWN plays super infectious lo fi indie pop/shoegaze that is in the vein of bands like Further, The Summer Hits, Drop Nineteens, Veronica Lake and Jesus & Mary Chain. Short bursts of fuzzed out pop tunes that begs multiple replays. This pro duped tape is imprinted on white clam shells and packed in beautiful full color artwork. Limited to 100 pieces. $5 PPD in the US.

FELLOW PROJECT 7 INCH COMING SOON
There are several reasons I feel awful that this record has been so delayed, firstly as my responsibility to the band to get their record out but probably more importantly is that these songs are so incredible that it is absolute crime that it isn’t on everyone’s turntable right now. If you need further convincing please stream the 7 inch in its entirety on Last FM (see link below). Fortunately, for fans of awesome music won’t have to wait much longer as this incredible 4 song ep is in production and should be out soon. Amazing, rocking indie rock with great lyrics and vocals. Take the lyrical gusto of Lou Reed channeled through stuff like Television, The Modern Lovers and The Feelies with a bit more of a modern approach. I even hear early Cursive in here. Indie rock that actually rocks. Features members of Bridge & Tunnel, and Yes Sensei as well as ex On the Might of Princes. A pressing of 300 pieces with a full color cover and insert

-V/A “I Know Why They Call It Pop” tape (After a period of submissions and compiling a solid track listing that speaks solidly to what was intended with this project I am thrilled to basically have this ready to go to press once the Fellow Project 7 inch returns. Rachel Wolf, whose artwork has been featured in the various Weed Hounds releases has been kind enough to lend her talents to this project. I think people who enjoy lo fi bedroom music will enjoy this release a great deal and appreciate the passion and honesty in every track showcased here. With so much focus on touring powerhouses or full bands lost in the shuffle most of the times are the people that just do music for fun for themselves in their bedrooms and maybe only sharing with a handful of friends. And for too long comps have been reduced to a marketing tool, this project hopes to reconnect and find something special within the format and use it as a platform for folks who don’t have the opportunity to share their music and art at shows they way bands do. This compilation is to document those creative individuals and the music they create in their bedrooms. Inspired by the lo fi movement of 90s 4 track culture, Shrimper Records and modifying the title of an essential 90s indie rock compilation (“Why Do You Think They Call it Pop” on Pop Narcotic Records) this tape limited to 100 pieces will host a variety of different sounds ranging from indie pop, shoegaze, folk, ambient, post punk, noise, etc.)
